The art director of the remake of Resident Evil 4 spoke about the old and new opponents
Game Informer spoke with the Resident Evil 4 Remake Art Director about the design of old and new enemies. The interview focuses on the chainsaw and farmer "Minotaur", and also gives a look at the fresh gameplay.
The iconic chainsaw man, also known as Dr. Salvador, moved from the original to the remake almost unchanged. Capcom considered making the enemy more intimidating by adding mass to him or dressing him in a long raincoat, but in the end they decided to abandon these ideas. As the art director notes, a simple person who, instead of showing normal behavior, wears a bag on his head and brandishes a chainsaw, is much more frightening. A different design would have made him a monster.
The updated image of the chainsaw has become more detailed. And the player will be able to see his eyes.
One of Leon's new opponents is a farmer with a cow's head and a huge hammer. It was created at the end of development to complement the gameplay, and not just "for show". The developers wanted the new enemy to stand out from the background of people and convey mythical horror.
And yes, the head of the cow in this design is a real head of a dead animal that somehow ended up on the shoulders of a person. During the battle, she does not follow the position of the player, but simply dangles in different directions.
Resident Evil 4 Remake releases March 24 on PC, both generations of PlayStation and Xbox Series. The Game Informer journalist managed to play the first and fifth chapters and shared his impressions of the game. According to rumors, in a week Capcom will hold an event dedicated to Resident Evil 4 and more.
