It is difficult to say definitively whether altcoins are dead or not. There are still a number of altcoins with active communities and strong development teams. However, the overall market capitalization of altcoins has been declining in recent years, and Bitcoin has captured a dominant share of the market.
Altcoins can be considered as "Slow rug" as most of the Altcoins are down a lot from their all time high in previous bull markets. Ultimately, Investors are losing interest in Altcoins and moving to investing in Bitcoin as Bitcoin has a larger network effect, which means that there are more people using it and more businesses accepting it.
Ultimately, whether or not altcoins are "dead" is a matter of opinion. There are still a number of altcoins with good potential.
