Coffin dance meme sold for 327 ETH as an NFT
Well, the meme ain’t dead yet, it seems. The famous coffin dance video, which depicts Ghana pallbearers participating in an unusual burial ceremony, was sold in an NFT auction for 327 ETH ($1,038,552).
The winning bid was made by a user that goes by the handle 3FMusic. On Twitter, the leader of Ghana pallbearers himself, Mr. Benjamin Aidoo, congratulated the bidder. He added:
“We would like to say thank you to everyone who supported our NFT, especially guys from the Bads_Zlodei: Dmitry Makarov, Eugene Lapitsky, Mykhailo Vatazhok.”
The bidder also transferred part of the proceedings to the Ukrainian charity Return Alive Foundation. The organization, which helps people affected by the ongoing conflict, will receive $250,000.
Moreover, $500,000 will go to the famous pallbearers themselves. Bads advertising agency will receive $250,000.
What do you think about selling the meme as an NFT? Is it fair that people involved can earn money by that? Or should memes be free? Let me know in the comments.
