Iqbal poem
In this poem Iqbal is referring to the time when Muslims were ruling this World. It was the time when prophet Muhammad ( PBUH) set the stage for his companions to conquer Persian and Roman empire. Therefore, Iqbal prays for that glory which Muslims had 1400 years ago. Moreover, Iqbal says that the secret of Muslim renaissance does not lie in human knowledge only. Intellect without ishq can lead to destruction. Thus, Iqbal says that human knowledge must be complemented by the higher intellect ( Ishq ). Prophet Muhammad and companions had both intellect and Ishq. Due to these qualities Muslims manged to conquer the world and brought forth the system of Deen for humanity. Unfortunately, the present world is ruled by imperialism, mullaism and capitalism. In a nutshell, Iqbal is praying that O Allah! Give us back that strength, valour, vision and Ishq so that we can be able to implement Islam in it's true meaning just like prophet Muhammad and his companions did.
