Ubisoft Should Bring Back Assassin's Creed Chronicles Through Assassin's Creed Infinity
Assassin's Creed Chronicles gives fans a new look into the franchise, and the future Assassin's Creed Infinity should include this type of game.
Ubisoft is planning a bunch of new Assassin's Creed content, and the Assassin's Creed Chronicles series should be a part of it. Currently, the developer has three full titles in the works alongside a new mobile game. All of these titles will whisk players off to brand-new periods of history, and fans are excited to see what they will entail. The future looks very bright for this series, and it will all be connected through the new Assassin's Creed Infinity.
Assassin's Creed Infinity will serve as a future hub for all Assassin's Creed titles, but it promises to be much more than a simple launcher. It will also be the location of the modern-day storyline and feature a whole new version of classic Assassin's Creed multiplayer. It will be interesting to see just what form this hub takes, and Ubisoft should not stop at just offering different modes through it. This hub could also serve as a jumping off point for smaller Assassin's Creed stories like Assassin's Creed Chronicles that further expand the iconic franchise.
Assassin's Creed Chronicles Was an Interesting Spin-Off Series
Assassin's Creed Chronicles was a trilogy of games set throughout history that expanded the mythos of the franchise. The trilogy kicked off with Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, which put players in control of Shao Jun during 16th Century China. After that, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India introduced the series to Arbaaz Mir in 19th Century India, and Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia concluded the trilogy with Nikolai Orelov during the early 20th Century. All three explored time periods that the greater series has not, following unique assassins who played pivotal roles within their brotherhoods. Instead of adopting the action-adventure genre that Assassin's Creed was known for, the Assassin's Creed Chronicles trilogy had a set of 2.5D side-scrollers. The art style was inspired by brush paintings, and players controlled these assassins through linear levels that had them sneak around enemies. The game also featured parkour like the main series, but it was far more limited in 2.5D, which was part of the charm. It was a very different take on the Assassin's Creed franchise, and it did not always work. Each game was met with mixed reviews from critics because they were not as advanced as the wider series. They were much shorter, and the style of game did not really improve with each entry, so a lot of fans have moved on from the trilogy. However, these games did a good job of expanding the lore and exploring unique time periods.
Assassin's Creed Infinity is the Future of Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed Chronicles does not seem to be in the cards for the foreseeable future, as all focus is on Assassin's Creed Infinity and the slate of games that will launch around it. Fans have Assassin's Creed Mirage to look forward to next year, and then sometime in the future Infinity will be launching alongside Codename Red and Codename Hexe. Assassin's Creed Infinity has long been rumored, and many believed it would be a live-service title that received new time periods via updates. However, Ubisoft's official reveal left fans with more questions as it presented Infinity to be a hub that connects games, even though people may be able to purchase these games separately. This makes it sound a lot like a storefront, but it will also house the modern-day storyline and a new multiplayer mode. Based on the reveal, Assassin's Creed Infinity almost sounds like a new game of sorts that will have other titles branch off from it. Players will be able to take part in a new multiplayer mode, and then they will be able to enter a single-player title whenever. If this works then it could be a cool idea that paves the way for smaller titles to branch off.
Chronicles Can Live On With Infinity
Assassin's Creed Infinity is the future, and Ubisoft seems to want to use it as a way to expand this 15-year-old franchise with whole new experiences. One of these experiences should be more Assassin's Creed Chronicles games. They were much smaller experiences that did not get a lot of attention from the fanbase, but Infinity could give smaller experiences the attention they deserve.
Assassin's Creed Chronicles could work well as another branch off from Infinity. After people have played through Codename Red, Ubisoft could launch a Chronicles game that gives them more Assassin's Creed to further expands the plot in that region. Maybe there is a very important Isu artifact that ended up in feudal Japan, so a Chronicles game could show just how it made that journey. Ubisoft could also craft whole new stories in different periods that it does not want to explore in the main series, or it could even use these smaller experiences to get Infinity users hyped for the next title.
If Assassin's Creed Infinity is successful, Ubisoft will probably devote a lot of resources to it, and it will further be expanded upon with even more titles. A smaller adventure like Chronicles may not get as much attention by itself, but if it is part of a larger thing people already own like Infinity, fans may check it out. It would not only give players far more Assassin's Creed to play, but it could also help Ubisoft build out its flagship franchise and boost the appeal of Infinity even more.
