Cardinal Virtues: Courage
According to philosophical texts, courage is one’s ability to stand under fire when faced with danger and adversity. It is to stand firmly in purpose, determination, and resolve. But let us take a closer look at this through a couple of perspectives.
The Hindu Goddess Durga teaches us about the essence of courage. For instance, she teaches us to embrace our inner strength and to use it when we are faced with challenges in our lives. She also teaches us the importance of facing our fears and confronting them. Similarly, in Christian theology, biblical scripture teaches us that believers & non-believers can demonstrate and inspire others to act with bad courage or good courage and that courage is where one’s virtues are tested. Demonstrating courage allows the world to see who we are, and whether we truly stand for what we believe in.
When faced with challenges, I challenge you to demonstrate to others your strength. Face your fears, your doubts, your losses, your enemies, your failures, and your successes. Don’t give up. Remember that Charles de Gaulle said on the initial fall of France to Germany during WWII, “France has lost a battle. But France has not lost the war.”
Peace & love to all
